Improperly gapped plugs will cause your engine to stumble, misfire, and all sorts of other problems relating to the engine running. If you go too far, you can tap the backstrap on the pavement, or use the hole to bend it back. If you need to increase or decrease the gap then you put the backstrap through the hole and pry lightly. The measurement is what your gap currently is. Then rotate it around until you feel that it is snugly fitting in the gap. You take the ring, and put the edge of it between the center electrode and the L shaped "backstrap" or Cathode as I call it. That hole is for you to use in order to increase or decrease the gap. It looks like a disc with a hole so you can put it on your keyring. The easiest one for a beginner to use costs $1.

It is not the oil breather which is that big hose that goes to the air filter. The PCV valve is under the intake manifold near the front of the engine. is it normal? could it just be from the plugs being old? do i need a gasket? help! haha but what was that white stuff around my old plugs? i looked it up, and someone said it may be from coolant leaking into the engine, but at the time i saw the white stuff, my coolant system was DRAINED cause my fan blew something into the radiator, and i was replacing it. i didnt change the oil yett and im passed due so i think that will hopefuly solve the problem. but at lower rpms, it made this clicking or putting like sound from the engine. and just yesterday, i just replaced my radiator, and it did the same. haah but i cleaned it out, and put the new motocrafts in, fired it up and she ran but seemed to hesitate at idle, but reved fine. so i took a q-tip and cleaned as much out as i could cause again, what ever it was, i did NOT want to get it into my engine. but when i took the boots off to put them in, there was this jellyfied whitestuff around the plugs.

i got a new set of motocraft platnums now. after that, me and my girlfriend checked the spark. so i made this nifty tool out of a suringe and a rubber tube to suck the water out cause i did NOT want to get it into my engine. i figured this may be frome last winter when my car was over heating and i sprinkled snow on the engine. but when i poped the boots off, 2 of my sparkplugs were surounded by this rusty colored water. i figured like last time, i just needed new plugs. my car was running funny, and the check engine light came on.
